Un tajo abierto se expande en Cerro de Pasco. A su paso, caen rajadas y destruidas las casas más cercanas a este abismo. Todo sucumbe ante la explotación minera. Las actividades mineras son la faceta actual de una historia de explotación minera desde la colonia hasta nuestros días, que ha empujado a los habitantes de la ciudad cerreña hasta la disyuntiva de reubicarse o seguir creciendo por reacomódo y en desorden entre grandes montículos de desmonte mineral, aguas ácidas y relaves. Esta historia de éxodo sigue vigente sin saber cuál será el futuro de esta ciudad, mientras cientos de niños viven intoxicados con metales pasados en sangre y el suelo sigue removiéndose por el avance de la explotación minera.
Éxodo imposible se presenta como testimonio de una realidad fragmentada que no es sino el reflejo de los mecanismos de dominación y control del Estado y del mercado. Más allá de conmover, se pretende exponer las grandes contradicciones que existen alrededor de la minería y su relación con el progreso del país.
